I havent' been able to participate in Illustration Friday as much as I would like as of late because I've been busy with other projects. I was happy to hear that this week's topic is "flight" because I already have an illustration that I finished a few months ago that fits the bill well.
It is another piece from my carnival freak series, and it is appropriatly titled, "The Flying Angelinas". My friend Angela modeled for it. No, she's really not that freckley, and does not have two heads and I really hope that she doesnt' hunt me down and smack me for posting this. But I do think that she likes the painting, so maybe she won't. None of my friends or family are really safe from me. Sooner or later, I think that they know way in the back of their heads that they will probably eventually be used as a model for one of my paintings. Muah ha ha. (evil laugh) And possibly turned into a carnie. There is a detail of the painting posted below, so check it out if you like.
This painting was pretty challenging because of the perspective. I wanted the twins to look like they were swinging on the trapeze high above the crowd. But I also had to make sure that they were still in the big top tent. If you look beyond the crowd, out the tent door, you can see the carnival midway in the background, with all of it's neon bright lights greasey food stands. Yummy. Kind of makes you wish for summer, huh?

I love carnival freaks! Especially siamese twins... did you happen to read Geek Love? Great work on your piece! It's way cool.
Your work is absolutely gorgeous. I looked through all your art work and I am very impressed. It's great that you have been busy with projects too. I can see why you'd be in demand.
Awesome! I look forward to viewing more - especially of your circus freak series.

I'm commenting here at my own blog, because for some reason I cant post to yours- Haiku Girl.....Yes yes yes yes....I HAVE read Geek Love, and I have to say it is one of my favorites. These twins in my painting were inspired by the twins in that story, belive it or not!
