Kat Von DOkay, maybe it's a stretch for Illustration Friday but since the topic is alphabets...
Here's the latest in the likeness category. For anyone who does not know of Kat Von D, she's a (famous) tattoo artist. You may have seen her on the TLC network show "Miami Ink". She now has her own show on TLC, "LA Ink". I think that she has a great look and would be a colorful addition to my portfolio. Not many people can pull of facial tattoos and actually have them look good! I believe that if you're gonna go all the way, then you'd better do it right!
She is also a very talented artist, specializing in portraits. They are not just tattoos, but works of art. I chose to use a parchment look again, for the background. I think that it ties in well with the classic tattoo border. This time I tried a little something different with the hair...instead of using straight black watercolor, I used india ink applied with a long pinstripe brush. It gives the hair a sort of graphic feel. I really like the way that the whole peice turned out. It is definately one of my strongest illustrations yet.
Enjoy!

Me likey... especially the border and the texture of her arm tats. Amazing how watercolor bleeds almost the same way a real tattoo does!
Nice!! An illustrator whose style I really like doing a great portrait of an ink artist I really like!!

Michele, just found your web page with your art work. I was doing a search for East Penn Motorcycle Mag, because I was at a bike show on Sunday in Warrington and taking photos. Some of the guys asked if I was there for the magazine. Anyway I like your work, very nice. The Kat piece looks very very good...
oooh, nice. i especially like the border, it just sets it off perfectly.
and when you look at your stats and see someone has been poking around your archives (that's not dirty, i swear!) it's just me. you are making me miss philly and new jersey!
(also, if you love old amusement parks, take a trip out to lindenwold before fall gets here and poke around clementon park, they've updated a lot of things but they still have an ancient merry-go-round).
Great likeness!
i love her and love the piece!
